How to Clean White Hard Water Stains Off Head Light Glass on BMW 540ia?
I was told that an auto detailing provider could use some sort of buffing device to remove stain covering entire headlight assemblies. I am unsure if this is a good idea or should I use an over-the-counter product.

it will also get rid of some of the cloudyness that you see and some headlights
Go to the detailor. The day I got my former 2003 530IA, i parked it under an overhead traintrack and cement leaking onto the windshield. The detailor took steel wool and wiped it of instantly, without scratching the windshield.
Nothing over the counter would work. Trust the detailor!
Try CLR first. If it doesn’t remove the "stains", have an auto body shop check them because they are not glass, they are plastic.
For hard water stains, I’ve used vinegar. The steel wool suggested by another member sounds like a good idea and since it’s glass, should be safe to use. I’d probably use a very fine steel wool.
