Bmw 330xi Mirror Fell Off?
i posted the same question in the maintenance and repairs section but i’m hoping maybe someone in this section has some experience with these types of mirrors.
well my stupid friend knocked my mirror off before and i’m wondering what to do. the car is a bmw 330xi and the mirror isn’t totally hanging off but it is not secure(it is a 2 part mirror, it is attached to the glass but has a wire on the top going into the roof). my question is, is the mirror a clip on or a glue on, and what would you recommend to fix it. an auto glass shop or a rear view mirror kit or can i fix it myself. if it must be fixed at an auto glass shop is there any kind of estimate on how much.
thanks

It depends if the mounting bracket was damaged or not. If so, the entire mirror needs to be replaced. Cost depends on which mirror you have, memory no memory? Can you reuse the painted cap? Either way, you’re looking at 300+ to replace it the right way…..
Chances are, your mirror was only accidentally twisted off it’s base.
Simply align the mirror to the base flatly, then gently turn it back to secure it. No glue needed.
Under NO circumstances should you try to "knock" it back in, you could crack your windshield.
Just to be clear, I read from your description that you’re referring to the interior rear view mirror (with your reference to the wiring going to the roof) whereas everyone else seems to talk about the outside door mirror.
Someone had kicked my mirror off 3 days ago and I had to replace it. I have a 2004 325CI. The mirror sells in 3 pieces. The whole bracket and all goes for a little under $300, the glass is nearly $175, and the cover is under $100 or maybe around there I beleive. This was nearly a $600 mirror. That’s the BMW world. So that was just my car. I just had to buy the bracket and all, includes all wiring. My cover and glass was still reusuable. The glass had a few scratches, but it can be dealt with especially when a new one would run be nearly $200. I had to spend $300 for just the base part, I didn’t need to get the mirror or cover. If it’s only your mirror loose, than make sure you secure it back properly with the wire intact, but if the entire base was removed by the window than most likely you’ll need a new base which runs nearly $300 at your BMW dealer. My suggestion bring the part to the dealer and ask them if it can be reused or is it deffinetly broken.
